Dining Options:
The hotel does not have a restaurant but does have a breakfast room where continental buffet breakfast is served daily.
There are endless dining options to choose from in Rome, ranging from cosy family-run venues, known as Trattoria, with home
cooked food, to the more up-market and sophisticated
Ristorante. In addition to these, there are hundreds of cafes
and bars, many of which also serve a selection of light snacks.
Eating outside is the norm for Romans and during the summer
months tables spill onto almost every square and side street.
Trastevere is the traditional restaurant area, with many
fine and reasonably priced eateries but also popular,
especially in the evenings, is Testaccio, with its good
selection of restaurants and pizzerias.
As one might expect, operas and concerts are performed
throughout the year, with many performances outside
in the summer.
Many churches also host a wide
range of choral, chamber and organ recitals, some of
which are free to attend. Several top international
jazz acts are lured to the Eternal City and there
is a wide range of clubs that cater for more modern
musical tastes.

Local information:
The city is best seen on foot, but wear sturdy shoes as many
streets are cobbled.
Taxis are the most efficient way to get
to your starting destination, but they are not cheap,
particularly if you get stuck in the infamous traffic.
Rome does have good public transport in the form of buses,
trams and metro BUT be wary of pickpockets.
The Colosseum is one of the most impressive sites and was
built to seat 55,000 spectators for gladiator combats and
wild beast shows.
The Roman Forum, now a vast field of ruins,
was the centre of commerce and politics in ancient Rome.
Magnificent squares, flamboyant facades and fountains are also
in abundance. Toss a coin over your left shoulder into the
Trevi Fountain to ensure your chance of a return trip.
Take
in the grand Piazza Navona with its street performers and
sketch artists, not to mention a collection of fountains
including its central masterpiece, the Fountain of Four Rivers
by Bernini.
The bewitching Spanish Steps are perhaps one of the most
romantic landmarks, complete with swaying palm trees and
pastel coloured palazzos and in April and May the steps
are covered in a spectacular blanket of azaleas.
The Vatican City, in the heart of Rome, is the smallest
sovereign state in the world. It is home to the Pope, the
sumptuously decorated St Peters Basilica and the Vatican Museum, holding one of the greatest collections of Classical and
Renaissance art.
Here you will find the famous Sistine
Chapel with Michelangelos dramatic ceiling frescos, depicting
the Creation.
Note - You will not be allowed to enter churches (including St
Peters) in shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops.
The Pope holds public audiences every Wednesday at 11.00 and
tickets can be obtained from the Prefettura office on the north
side of St Peters Square.
An easier way to see the Pope,
however, is simply to turn up at the Square, every Sunday at
noon when he appears at his study window to bless the crowds
below. |
